The Descendants of John T Jordan & Sarah Elizabeth Howell

This article describes the descendants of John T Jordan, the great-grandfather of Jake Albert Jordan and my 3x great-grandfather, and his second wife, Sarah Elizabeth Howell.

After Dolly Macon died in March 1878, J T Jordan married Sarah Elizabeth Howell on 7 August 1878.  J T and Sarah had eight children who are described below.

W L, a daughter, born 1979 in Tennessee.  No further information is known.

John T, Jr., born 1881 in Tennessee.  No further information is known.

Dan B, born 1882 in Tennessee.  No further information is known.



Cora Virginia "Jennie", born 23 June 1884 in Tennessee / died 22 May 1961 in Fort Worth, Texas.  Jennie had a daughter named Delpha June who was born 25 June 1914 and died 8 April 1999.  According to census records Jennie is listed as widowed or married although there are no records of Jennie's husband and no hints as to who Delpha's father may have been.   On the 1920 census she listed as being single with a birthdate much younger than her actual birthdate.  From records we can see that she worked as a maid and took in boarders to make ends meet until she died of cancer in 1961.  Jennie is buried in Leonard, Texas.  Her daughter Delpha lived with Jennie until at least 1940.  Then she married Coy Pennington and had two children:  Coy Jr born in 1948 and Cora Beth born in 1951.

Arthur Milton, born 30 December 1885 in Tennessee / died 2 September 1959 in Fort Worth, Texas.  Arthur had a daughter on 14 September 1920 with a woman named Bessie Havens.  It does not appear that Arthur and Bessie were ever married.  In about 1915 Arthur married Mary Ella Gamel-Perrin, a divorced mother of two.  Arthur and Mary divorced between 1930-1940.  Arthur worked as a painter until he died in 1959 at the age of 73.  Arthur is buried in Leonard, Texas.  His daughter Beatrice may have married a Puerto Rican immigrant named Edgard Gill, Jr in the mid-1940s.  Records are inconclusive.

Charles E, born 1887 in Texas.  No further information is known.

Anna Elnora "Nora", born 19 January 1893 in Leonard, Texas / died 14 February 1982 in Fort Worth, Texas.  Nora married William Newton Roberts in about 1920.  William worked as a laborer for the water works and as a roofer while Nora was a homemaker.  They had six children:

1. Mary E, born 4 December 1920 in Tarrant County, Texas.  Mary's married name may have been Elrod and she may have died in 1991 in Fort Worth, Texas.
2. Water T, born about 1923 in Texas
3. Harold T, born about 1925 in Texas
4. Edith V, born 20 August 1926 in Tarrant County, Texas / died 9 August 2001 in Tarrant County, Texas.  Edith married Lloyd J Maddox on 25 November 1971, and there are no records of Edith and Lloyd having any children.  Edith's tombstone has the inscription "Loving Mother", so it is a reasonable assumption that she had a previous marriage before Lloyd.  No conclusive records are available.
5. Boddie D, born about 1933 in Texas
6. Delpha June, born 24 April 1935 in Tarrant County, Texas

William and Nora divorced in 1940.  Nora died of heart disease in 1982 and is buried in Kennedale, Texas.

Chester Scott, born 18 June 1896 in Texas / died 19 November 1978 in Cleburne, Texas.  Chester was interior descorator/designer and was married to Sallie Reed.  There is no record of Chester and Sallie having any children.
